Love Isn’t Enough—God Must Be in It
Why Faith Is the Foundation of Lasting Love
We often hear the phrase, “All you need is love.” It sounds beautiful, but in reality, love alone is not enough to sustain a marriage or a lifelong relationship. Feelings of love can fade, shift, and change with seasons of life. What starts as passion and excitement must eventually be strengthened by something deeper, something eternal. That something is God.
Love without God may carry you through the good days, but when storms come and they will human love can struggle to endure. Hurt, disappointment, and misunderstanding will test the very core of your commitment. But when God is the center, His love becomes the glue that holds everything together.
God’s Word reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13 that love is patient, kind, not self-seeking, and keeps no record of wrongs. On our own, living out that kind of love is impossible. But with God’s Spirit guiding us, we can love each other not just with emotions, but with action, sacrifice, and grace.
A Christ-centered relationship doesn’t just survive it thrives. Why? Because it’s not built on shifting sand, but on the solid rock of God’s truth. When both partners surrender their hearts to Christ first, their love for each other flows from His love for them.
So if you’re married, preparing for marriage, or praying for a relationship, remember this truth: love isn’t enough God must be in it. With Him, your love is transformed from a fleeting feeling into a lasting covenant, one that can withstand trials, grow through seasons, and reflect the very heart of Christ to the world.
